FSUE "Rosmorport" announces a competition for the construction of innovative dual-fuel icebreakers with a capacity of 12-14 MW (KPMI)

FSUE "Rosmorport" announced a competition for the construction of innovative dual-fuel icebreakers of 23620 project with a capacity of 12-14 MW and with Icebreaker 7 ice class. According to the Integrated Plan for the Modernization and Expansion of Backbone Infrastructure (KPMI), it is planned to build 2 vessels of such type.

These vessels will be able to navigate through ice up to 1.5 m thick, have an unlimited navigation area and will be able to operate year-round in the Baltic, White and Barents seas and in the seas of the Pacific Basin.

Vessels of this type will be built in Russia for the first time. This is the first Russian icebreaker project with an electric power plant capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG). The use of environmentally clean fuel will reduce carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere by 20-30%, nitrogen oxides – by more than 90%, sulfur oxides and solid particles – by 100% compared to vessels running on traditional heavy fuel.

The icebreaker of 23620 project is also the world's first LNG icebreaker with dynamic positioning system DYNPOS-2.

Today FSUE "Rosmorport" owns the largest icebreaking fleet in the world. Within the framework of the KPMI, the enterprise will build 10 icebreakers until 2030 in total, which will allow to reduce the average age of the icebreaker fleet to 25 years in average.
