Fishermen crew rescued from a torn ice floe by the crew of the icebreaker of FSUE “Rosmorport”

The crew of an icebreaker of FSUE “Rosmorport” rescued 10 fishermen from a torn ice floe in the Koporye Bay of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea.

On March 6, 2021, the Marine Rescue and Coordination Center of St. Petersburg had received a message that in the Koporye Bay of the Gulf of Finland, in the area of Staroe Garkolovo village, 4 kilometers from the coast, 10 fishermen were stuck on a torn ice floe and were asking for help.

The icebreaker Kapitan Plakhin of FSUE “Rosmorport” was involved the operation to rescue the fishermen. At 15:40, the fishermen were removed from the ice and then transported to the seaport of Ust-Luga.

The icebreaker group of FSUE “Rosmorport” in the Gulf of Finland consists of 6 linear and 6 port icebreakers. In accordance with the Icebreaker Layout Plan, the icebreaker Kapitan Plakhin provides icebreaker pilotage for vessels going to the seaport of Ust-Luga.
