Fleet of FSUE "Rosmorport" takes part in the VII Icebreaker Festival in Saint Petersburg

The VII icebreaker Festival was held in Saint Petersburg. Residents and guests of the city had an opportunity to visit the icebreakers of the North-Western basin branch of FSUE “Rosmorport” Kapitan Sorokin, Saint Petersburg and Kapitan Zarubin, which carry out icebreaking pilotage of vessels in the Gulf of Finland. Icebreaker-tug Nevskaya Zastava and the icebreaker Museum Krasin also participated in the water show. The vessels were moored at the English embankment and the Lieutenant Schmidt embankment.

The opening ceremony of the festival was attended by captain-mentor of the North-Western basin branch of FSUE “Rosmorport” Anton Orlov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for tourism development of St. Petersburg Yulia Kuzenskaya, General Director of the World Ocean Museum Svetlana Sivkova, and other high-ranking officials.

For two days, free access to the icebreakers was organized for everyone. Visitors were met by crew members, as well as cadets of FSEI HE "Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping" and St. Petersburg state marine technical University. Guests of the icebreakers were told about the structure of this type of vessels and the life of the crews on board.

An interactive entertainment program, children's creative master classes, contests and quizzes dedicated to life at sea, shipbuilding and Arctic exploration were waiting for visitors on the beach. Street exhibitions dedicated to the history and modern achievements of the icebreaker fleet, tents with interactive expositions and presentations presented by specialized museums and organizations, naval universities, Arctic regions were organized near the main stage.

The festival culminated in the traditional waltz of tugs. The three tugs circled synchronously to the tunes of the famous waltzes, diverging and coming together again, releasing powerful water fountains.

In total, this year's event was attended by more than 40 thousand people. The festival with the participation of the icebreakers of FSUE "Rosmorport" has been held since 2014. Today, it is popular not only among St. Petersburg residents –people specifically come from other cities to see the workers of the seas. The main goal of the event is to show the status of Russia as a great sea power, and St. Petersburg, in turn, as its sea capital. In addition, it is also an introduction to the history and features of the country's icebreaking fleet.
