Cadets of the Admiral F.F. Ushakov State Maritime University raised the flag of the Russian Federation on the sailing training ship Khersones of the Rosmorport Federal State Unitary Enterprise in honor of the Day of Military Glory of Russia.

The cadets of “Ushakovka” undergoing sailing practice learned about the history of the holiday, got acquainted with the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, which marked the end of the war, listened to a detailed lecture on the Great Victory. In the evening, films about the Great Patriotic War were shown in the classroom of the sailing ship.

At the moment Khersones is taking part in the events of the “Tavrida – ART” festival. In honor of the holiday, scarlet sails are raised on the ship.

On the 3 of September the Day of Russia's Military Glory is celebrated - the Day of the end of the Second World War. On the 3 of September 1945, representatives of the Soviet Union, the USA, Chin, Great Britain, France and other allied states put their signatures under the Japanese Instrument of Surrender. This day marked the end of World War II.

The day of the end of World War II in 1945 is celebrated in Russia on the 3 September from 2020, before that date was celebrated on the 2 September.

The training sailing ship Khersones is one of five sailing training sister ships built at the Gdansk shipyard on request of the USSR. The overhaul of Khersones was completed in June 2016, today the sailing ship represents a practical training base for cadets of the Admiral F.F. Ushakov State Maritime University. 26 sails of the magnificent three-mast frigate are operated exclusively by hand and represent the main propulsor of the vessel.

The engines are used for sailing only under stormy conditions, as well as for manoeuvering when entering and leaving the port.

Annually more than 2,000 cadets from the leading maritime universities of the country, including the Admiral S.O. Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, the Admiral F.F. Ushakov State Maritime University, the Admiral G.I. Nevelskoy Maritime State University undergo sailing practice on the FSUE “Rosmorport” sailing and industrial training ships - Khersones, Nadezhda, Mir and Professor Khlyustin.
