For the first time in the history of the “My Port” project winners of the contest will spend unforgettable time at one of the children’s centers on the shore of the Sea of Japan. This became possible due to an agreement on cooperation signed by FSUE “Rosmorport” and the All-Russian Children’s center “Okean” (Vladivostok) last November. During the shift, the participants will undergo training under the center’s program.

The thematic shift “The Origin of Maritime Fraternity” is aimed at developing the ideas of internationalism through studying the fundamentals of international navigation and maritime affairs. The solemn opening ceremony was held at the Brigantina vigilante group’s cinema concert hall on July 21, 2019.

The program of the upcoming shift is expected to be intensive: it is planned to hold 12 thematic master classes “The Cutting Edge Fleet” during which children are proposed to immerse themselves in the unforgettable atmosphere of adventures through taking part in education classes on maritime affairs.

Much attention will be paid to theoretic components: children will get acquainted with the history of navigation, the geography of waterways, maritime law, the basics of communications in the multi-lingual crew, marine celestial navigation and many other issues. Young mariners will learn about modern tendencies of shipbuilding development, study the specifics of maneuvering and ship handling within the course “Navigation Automation and Navigation Safety”.

Special attention will be paid to practical skills: during the master class “Shipbuilding”, boys and girls will be able to take part in assembling a centerboard boat of Optimist Class. Moreover, children will have an opportunity to put to the sea on yawls, train rigging, semaphore alphabet and get acquainted with reading ground maps, as well as study navigation equipment.

Winners and prize members of the “My Port” project will become participants in the thematic shift in the youngest vigilante group “The Ocean Squadron” opened in June 2017. The training process of this kind is aimed at making maritime professions popular among the younger generation.
