Vladivostok Icebreaker Joins Fleet of FSUE “Rosmorport”

Today a solemn ceremony of signing an acceptance certificate for the Vladivostok diesel-electrical icebreaker was held in Saint-Petersburg. The vessel was built by order of FSUE “Rosmorport”. Signing a legal document became possible after successful sea trials of the ship.

The experts of the enterprise have confirmed that the icebreaker complies with all technical characteristics of project 21900M. All systems and mechanisms installed at the Vladivostok function as normal. During the sea trials speed performance and maneuvering capabilities of the vessel were checked, as well as operation of the ship’s service systems and devices, performance of the power system, electric, radio and navigation devices.

The Vladivostok is the main ship in the series of three 18 MWt diesel-electrical icebreakers. The ships are being built within the federal target program “Development of the Transport System of Russia 2010-2020”. Vladivostok is a new generation icebreaker with a high degree of automation and non-limited sailing area. It is capable of breaking ice up to 1.5 thick.

The icebreaker is designed to lead large-tonnage vessels, tow and assist vessels in distress. Also the Vladivostok can transport cargoes, as it has a special deck for cargo containers and a crane with the lifting capacity of 26 tons. The ship has an independent fuel range, which is enough for 40 days. A helipad is located at the covered forecastle of the icebreaker.

The Vladivostok icebreaker will be used by the North-Western Basin Branch in the Baltic Sea in winter and in arctic seas in summer and autumn.
