FSUE “Rosmorport” General director takes part in Minister of Transport working trip to Kaliningrad region

1-2.02.2011 I.M. Rusu, the FSUE “Rosmorport” General director, took part in a working trip to the Kaliningrad region of I.E. Levitin, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation.

The visit was aimed to solve the problems of transportation in Kaliningrad region. In the network of the visit the Minister of Transport met the Kaliningrad region Governor with participation of representatives of transport business, including General director and authorities of the FSUE “Rosmorport”. The meeting saw the discussion of the construction of a deep-water seaport and the port infrastructure, the development of state border of the Russian Federation checkpoints in Kaliningrad region.

During his visit, I.E. Levitin visited a railway ferry complex in the city of Baltiysk under the jurisdiction of Kaliningrad department of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Saint Petersburg branch and took part in the opening ceremony of the ferry route Baltiysk — Sassnitz (Germany). The first trip on the route will perform an Ambal ferry by the JSC “Anship” operator with 30 road-trains aboard. The ferry capabilities allow transferring up to 130 vans or more than 110 road-trains at a time. The ferry is planned to implement 2 trips per week.

The Baltiysk railway ferry complex hosted the conference with the Minister of Transport in the Chair concerning the problem of Russian cargo transport transit via the territory of the European Union. The Kaliningrad region Governor, head of the Federal Agency for Marine and River Transport, the FSUE “Rosmorport” General director and the representatives of marine and motor transport business also took part in the conference. They discussed the issues of motor transport ferry transfer cost optimization and Baltiysk — Sassnitz route competitiveness increase, which is an alternative shipping route between Russia and the European Union.
