Commemorative Medal for Veterans, Home Front Workers and Concentration Camps Prisoners Participated in the Great Patriotic War

A ceremony of awarding of veterans, home front workers and concentration camps prisoners of the Great Patriotic War with a commemorative medal “70 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of
1941 – 1945” took place in the cultural centre of Vrangel village on 10 April 2015. The event was attended by Deputy Director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Far-Eastern Basin Branch – Head of Eastern department – Viktor Chernov.

The medals were awarded by Deputy Head of Hakhodka Region Administration – Head of “Poselik Vrangel” territorial administration. The medals were accompanied by gifts and flowers.

The event was followed by a concert with the participation of creative groups of the Cultural Centre, and on the background wartime slides and photographs were shown. Each awarded person was greeted by applause. Front-line soldier Aleksandr Kolodko recited poems for the guests of the ceremony. The audience had a chance to get acquainted with short biography of all the awarded veterans and home front workers, learnt about severities of living in Leningrad Aleksandra Zhukova had to experience and destitutions of minor prisoner of a concentration camp – Asya Solopiy who both live now in Vrangel village.

Viktor Chernov greeted the audience with the speech: “Veterans managed to defend our peace in extremely severe conditions, gave new generations a chance to live. Unfortunately, very few of them managed to survive those dreadful events, but your feat will remain in our memory and memory of the next generations forever”. Viktor Chernov also underlined invaluable contribution of Hakhodka villagers – home front workers – to the Victory.In the end of the official part all the audience observed a minute of silence in tribute to the memory of those who lost their lives in the battlefields, and the awarded veterans and home front workers were invited to a tea party where in warm, friendly atmosphere they could recollect the past and sing their favourite songs to the accordion.
