Vanino Branch Employees Participate in the Events Dedicated to the 70th Anniversary of the End of World War II

On September 2, 2015 employees of the Vanino Branch took part in the ceremony of laying flowers to the Victory Obelisk in the village of Vanino in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The Victory Obelisk in the village of Vanino, depicting in stone the feat of Soviet soldiers and stages of the war they had gone through, was inaugurated to the sound of the USSR anthem and the celebratory gunfire on May 9, 1975 in honor of the 30th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941 – 1945.

As part of the commemorative events, the participants paid homage to the memory of the first captain of the seaport of Vanino, Petr Stepanov, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty in 1958.

Petr Stepanov was an active participant of the Great Patriotic War on the Black sea and the Far East. During the war, for exemplary performance of combat tasks of command Petr Stepanov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner and the Order of the Red Star, medals “For the Defence of Odessa”, “For the Defence of Sevastopol”, “For the Victory over Germany” and “For the Victory over Japan.”

For his long and flawless work in the Navy, Petr Stepanov was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour and the titles of the Captain 1st Rank of the Navy of the USSR and the Honorable Worker of Marine Fleet of the USSR.
