Yury Akhmedov, the head of the Ust-Luga Department of the North-Western Basin Branch, made a welcoming speech in front of the participants of the commemorative event.

"Today we celebrate one of the most tragic dates in the history of our country - the day of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Almost four years of bitter trials became a symbol of the heroism and resilience of our people. Visiting this memorial, we remember those who died in the battles, who died in the shelling. We deeply honor the memory of all those who did not return from the battlefields, who gave their lives for our future, and we will always remember the heroes-front-line soldiers and workers on the home front", said Yury Akhmedov in his speech.

Aleksandr Chikalov, Chief Specialist of the Ust-Luga Department of the North-Western Basin Branch, a local historian of the Kingisepp district, told the event participants in detail about the history of this half-caponier, which was a part of the 21st Kingisepp heavily defended fortified area.

The event ended with a moment of silence, when employees of the Ust-Luga Department of the North-Western Basin Branch paid tribute to the memory of all heroes killed in the war.
