North-Western Basin Branch conducts naval exercises and civil defense facility-based training

On June 7 and 8, 2022, FSUE "Rosmorport" in cooperation with the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations conducted naval exercises and civil defense facility-based training in the Big Port Saint-Petersburg, as well as in Vyborg-Vysotsk, Ust-Luga and Kaliningrad departments of the North-Western Basin Branch of FSUE "Rosmorport".

The exercises and trainings were attended by employees of fire-fighting units of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, FSBI "AMP of the Baltic Sea", "Seaport of St. Petersburg" JSC and other organizations, as well as employees of the North-Western Basin Branch.

During the exercises on June 7, measures to extinguish a hypothetical fire on the icebreaker Kapitan M. Izmailov were worked out in cooperation with the 19th Fire Department of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations at the 9th berth of the 1st district of the seaport of Big Port Saint-Petersburg in the Gutuevsky boot basin area. Upon the drill fire alarm, the icebreaker crew clearly and coherently worked out the actions to contain and eliminate the fire. Together with the fire and rescue unit, the crew evacuated the injured from the burning vessel. For the emergency escape from the disabled vessel the captain of the icebreaker declared "boat alarm", after which the crew was evacuated to the berth. Through the joint efforts of the crew members and employees of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire hazard was eliminated.

As a result of the exercises, the clear and timely actions of the crew and its interaction with the seaport organizations were positively assessed. The training objectives were achieved.

On June 8, the branch held a facility-based training on civil defense and emergency protection. The management of the branch was informed by ­duty-dispatching services­ about the drill fire alarm, after which upon the "drill fire alarm" signal the employees of the branch were evacuated from office buildings. Primary actions to extinguish the fire and interaction with units of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations were also trained.

During the training in Vyborg-Vysotsk, Ust-Luga and Kaliningrad departments, as well as in Saint Petersburg, measures were taken to deploy individual protection equipment issuing points, shelter employees in defense buildings and ensure the smooth operation of the facility. Continuous interaction was established between the exercise headquarters and the branch offices, as well as between structural units and third-party organizations.

The tasks of the facility-based civil defense training were fulfilled, the training objectives were achieved. The actions of officials were positively assessed by A.L. Strelnikov, acting director of the North-Western Basin Branch.
