Annual icebreaker festival will be held in Saint Petersburg

On September 19-20, 2020 a grand event - the icebreaker festival – will be held in Saint Petersburg for the seventh time.

On September 18, 2020 the Saint Petersburg, the Captain Sorokin and the Captain Zarubin icebreakers of the FSUE "Rosmorport" North-Western Basin Branch moored to the English Embankment and the Lieutenant Schmidt Embankment and now they are ready to meet festival visitors.

The grand opening of the festival will take place on September 19 at 12:00. Free access to the vessels will be provided for everyone. For safety reasons, children under 6 years of age are not allowed to visit icebreakers.

On the first day of the festival (September 19), the icebreakers will be open for visitors from 12:00 to 6:30 p.m., and on the second day of the festival (September 20) - from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Visitors will be able to climb the decks of the icebreakers and get acquainted with the unique engineering structures of vessels of this type.

Also an entertainment program will be presented to all guests of the festival. Near the main stage there will be organized street exhibitions dedicated to the history and modern achievements of the icebreaker fleet, tents with interactive expositions and presentations presented by specialized museums and organizations, naval universities, Arctic regions.

On September 19 at 5:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. the parade of water vehicles will become the culmination of the festival. Accompanied by a symphony orchestra, the tugs will perform a sea waltz, creating an enchanting show on the water.

Part of the festival program "Saint Petersburg. Road to the Arctic" will be dedicated to cinema. In an open cinema at the festival site, there will be shown the documentaries and popular science films on the development of the Arctic, on the icebreaking fleet, on Arctic expeditions and their heroes. A historical lecture hall will be organized by the scientific staff of the Krasin icebreaker museum.
