Units of the Kaliningrad Directorate of the North-Western Basin Branch took part in a drill for rescuing people in distress at sea in the seaport of Kaliningrad on July 10, 2020.

The rescue and coordination center FSBI “The Administration of the Baltic Sea Ports” coordinated the actions taken by the rescue units which had taken part in the drill in the seaport of Kaliningrad.

In addition to the Kaliningrad Directorate of the North-Western Basin Branch, the drill involved units of Russia’s FSB Border Guard Department for the Kaliningrad Region, the Kaliningrad Customs Service, the Main Directorate of the Emergencies Ministry for the Kaliningrad Region, the Baltic Sea Fleet, the Healthcare Ministry of the Kaliningrad region and other rescue formations deployed in the seaport of Kaliningrad.

During the exercise, rescue units drilled actions taken by personnel and equipment to rescue and search for people in distress at sea and conduct rescue operations in the Russian zone of responsibility.

The Kaliningrad Directorate of the North-Western Basin Branch used the Kapitan Belyayev workboat and units of the GMDSS A1 Sea Area communication and radar control center in the drill.

By the drill legend the units had to search for and rescue crewmembers of the Spirit vessel.

The crew of the workboat had been set a task to urgently arrive at the drill area and search for and rescue people by tacking with a group of ships and boats.

Within an hour since the beginning of the rescue operation the crew of the Kapitan Belyayev boat could find the PSN-6 life raft on the float and people in distress. Then they were successfully picked up and rendered first medical assistance.

By the legend one of the injured people needed urgent medical assistance. He was taken aboard a helicopter from the boat by using a hand chain hoist. Then he was taken to a first-aid station ashore.

Upon completion of the search operation all rescued people were taken to a casualty reception point on Berth No. 2 of the seaport of Kaliningrad near Baltiysk to render first medical aid and then take them to regional medical institutions for treatment.

As a result of the drill, the rescue service which took part in the exercise, showed full interaction and professionalism that helped achieve the goals, which had been set earlier.
