Young whitefish released to Couronian lagoon

Within the framework of implementation of environmental measures taken by the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Directorate to compensate damage caused to water bioresources and their environment in 2016 over 80,000 young whitefish was released to the Baltic Sea’s Couronian lagoon on October 8, 2019. Young whitefish has been released during repair dredging operations in the water area of the seaport of Kaliningrad and in the presence of representatives of state supervisory agencies.

Young whitefish with the average weight of 3.5 grams have been produced and released to the lagoon by order of the North-Western Basin Branch and by efforts of the specialized fish-breeding plant. The Branch’s expenses to perform the compensatory actions amounted to 4.7 million Rubles.

As of 2020 the North-Western Basin Branch Kaliningrad Directorate is planning to spend 4.9 million Rubles on producing young whitefish within the compensation measures.
