Kaliningrad Department of the North-Western Basin Branch Takes Part in the Exercises in Search and Rescue of People Held in the Baltic Sea

On August 4, 2015, subdivisions of the Kaliningrad Department of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch took part in the exercises in search and rescue of people, organized by FSBI “MPA of the Baltic Sea” in the seaport of Kaliningrad.

According to the exercise scenario, searching for conditionally missing passenger vessel and rescue of people in distress in the Baltic Sea were refined. 

Vessels Kapitan Belyaev and Vega of the Kaliningrad Department, having been instructed by the head of training rescue operation, promptly moved to the exercise area to perform tasks related to search and rescue of people. Radio communication between the participants of the exercises was established using the sea area A1 GMDSS base station of the Kaliningrad Department of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch.

During the exercise, the staff of the Kaliningrad Department worked out the operational skills of search and rescue of people at sea, as well as the tactics of interaction with other participants of the rescue operation, including: units and vessels of the Main Department of EMERCOM of Russia in the Kaliningrad region, the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy, Border Guard of FSB of Russia in Kaliningrad region, the Kaliningrad Branch of the FBI “Marine Rescue Service of Rosmorrechflot”, and Kaliningrad Customs of the Federal Customs Service of Russia.

As a result of the accomplished exercises all the objectives were achieved. In particular, the capacity limits were tested, all the elements of interaction of forces and means of rescue units in accordance with the plan for search and rescue of persons in distress at sea in the search and rescue region of MRCC Kaliningrad were practised, and the practical skills in the search and rescue of people at sea in accordance with the provisions of the IAMSAR were obtained by the captains (commanders) of the seagoing vessels and aircrafts.
