Irbis vessel joins the fleet of the Sakhalin branch

In accordance with the order of FSUE “Rosmorport” No. 181 dated 18.05.2021, the Irbis vessel that had been operated by the FSUE “Rosmorport” Azovo-Chernomorsky basin branch, was transferred to the economic management of the enterprise’s Sakhalin branch.

The vessel of the Shoalbuster 2709 project is classified as a tugboat and has become the third tugboat of the Sakhalin branch and the eighth vessel in the entire fleet of the branch.

The Irbis tugboat is a single-deck vessel with a superstructure in the bow and a mid-ship engine-room. The tug is equipped with two main engines with a total power of 1,940 kW and two fixed pitch propellers.

The cargo lifting and other specialized equipment installed on the Irbis determines the main purpose of the vessel as a buoy craft. The vessel is equipped with a crane with lifting capacity from 5.3 to 16.8 tons with outreach from 18 to 7.7 meters, towing hook with bollard pull of 12 tons and towing winch with pull of 50 tons.

At present the Irbis tugboat, having passed from the seaport of Novorossiysk along the Northern sea route, is in the seaport of Vladivostok for emergency repairs in accordance with the requirements of the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS).

After all technical works on the vessel are finished, it is planned to be used for installing, removing and maintaining of navigational signs in the seaports of the Sakhalin region and on the approaches to them, as well as for sea towing, if necessary.

The Irbis tugboat was built in 2014. It is named after the ounce, or the snow leopard, a large predatory mammal of the feline family that lives in the mountains of Central Asia.
