Release of Juvenile Chum Salmon into the Sova River

In order to compensate damage to aquatic biological resources and their habitat caused during carrying out repair dredging works in the seaports of the Sakhalin region, in 2015 under order of the Sakhalin Branch a specialized fish farming institution bred almost 1.2 million juvenile chum salmon.

On May 30, 2016 all grown juvenile chum salmon with average weight nearly 0.9 grams was released into the Sova river located in the Kholmsk district of the Sakhalin island in the presence of representatives of the Sakhalino-Kurilsky Territorial Department of Rosrybolovstvo. Expenses of the Sakhalin Branch on breeding and release of juvenile chum salmon amounted to more than 1.1 million rubles.

This juvenile chum salmon release is the fourth, which finalizes implementation of compensatory measures for the artificial reproduction of Pacific salmon within the project of performance of repair dredging works in the seaport of Shakhtersk in the period of 2011 to 2015. In 2012 by order of the Sakhalin Branch over 4 million juvenile chum salmon were bred and released into Zavetinka and Sova rivers of the Sakhalin Island. Total expenses of the Sakhalin Branch on the implementation of compensatory measures amounted to nearly 7.3 million rubles.
