Work on cleaning-up the bottom of the water area of the seaport of Yeisk has been completed

The Yeisk Department of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Azovo-Chernomorsky Basin Branch provided work on cleaning-up the bottom of the water area of the seaport of Yeisk from foreign objects that pose a navigational hazard.

The work was carried out in the period from September 7 to October 28, 2022. With the help of special equipment, the divers of the contracting organization lifted from the bottom the tires of pneumatic tyres with a metal cord, sunken wood, several metal structures, as well as a propeller-rudder nozzle and a rudder blade from the sunken vessel.

Work on cleaning-up the waters of the seaport of Yeisk from discarded and sunken objects was carried out for the first time in such a volume. The purpose of these measures is to ensure the safety of navigation, to prepare for repair dredging and to improve the ecological situation at the water body.

To achieve this goal, it was necessary to solve a set of tasks: to conduct a survey of the seaport’s water area to identify discarded and sunken objects from ships, as well as other abandoned property; to carry out measures to raise sunken objects, clean up the water area from industrial and household waste and to arrange their safe transportation and utilization.

Before starting underwater technical work, the specialists of the navigation and hydrographic support sector of the Yeisk Department of the Azovo-Chernomorsky Basin Branch conducted a survey of the water area bottom of the seaport of Yeisk with a side-scan sonar. The survey results and coordinates of the sunken objects weighing from 0.6 to 3.0 tons were transferred to the diving group.

In total, 116 items were raised during the cleaning of the seaport of Yeisk water area. All objects were delivered by a licensed organization to the place of recycling and utilization as the waste of III-V hazard classes.
