Practical Exercises Simulating Fire On Ships

On board of Kapitan Krutov icebreaker of the Yeisk Department of the Azov-Chernomorsky Basin Branch in accordance with the program of training of firemen of the Krasnodar Department of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia there were held practical exercises on improvement of their actions in case of fire on ships.

According to the exercise legend, in the engine compartment of vessel in the area of heating boilers, a conventional fire occurred. At the time of the emergency, there was one member of the crew – engine-minder, who urgently needed aid and immediate evacuation.

The Krasnodar Department of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia fire service squad, wearing special equipment, moving in complete darkness with the use of a ship map, entered the location of the simulated source of fire. As a result of the coherent action of firefighters, the fire was extinguished, and the injured crew member was rescued and evacuated from the fire zone to the shore.

Holding of the practical training on board of the icebreaker allowed the firefighters of the Krasnodar Department of Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia to gain invaluable experience in conditions close to real ones and to work out the issues of cooperation of rescuers with the vessel crew, port authorities and other rescue units when extinguishing fires on vessels.
