Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker returns to the seaport of Murmansk

On June 15, the Kapitan Dranitsyn arrived at the seaport of Murmansk upon completion of the over 50-day voyage.

During the voyage, the Kapitan Dranitsyn provided icebreaker support for vessels sailing from the northernmost tip of Novaya Zemlya Archipelago to the water area of the seaport of Sabetta.

In second half of May 2018 the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker provided icebreaker support and unloaded three vessels on the ice ledge of Alexandra Land Island of Frantz Josef Land Archipelago: the Kotlas tanker, the S. Kuznetsov motor vessel and the Inzhener Trubin motor vessel.

Then in the first half of June 2018 the icebreaker arrived in the water area of the seaport of Varandei where it unloaded tankers at the stationary offshore ice-resistant off-loading terminal.

During the voyage, twenty second year cadets of the Murmansk maritime fishing college named after I.I. Mesyatsev of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Education “Murmansk State Technical University” with a specialization in navigation and operation of ship power plants were aboard the icebreaker according to the information that had been provided earlier.

Future sailors acquired valuable experience working on the icebreaker in severe Arctic conditions, studied the icebreaker’s construction, the operation of its systems and mechanisms and also studied the work of crewmembers. This voyage will play the key role in the cadets’ realization that their choice of future profession was the right one.
