The Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker sets sail

Upon completion of the voyage in the White Sea where the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker provided support for vessels between the seaports of Kandalaksha and Arkhangelsk and its return to the seaport of Murmansk the icebreaker took aboard the fuel bunker, replenished its supplies of water and set sail toward the Ob Bay on April 22 to provide icebreaker support for vessels headed toward the seaport of Sabetta.

In order to undergo training on the icebreaker twenty cadets of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education “MSTU” Mesiatsev Murmansk Marine Fishing College also left for the voyage aboard the icebreaker. During the voyage, the second-year cadets specializing in marine navigation and operation of vessel power plants will study the icebreaker’s construction, the operation of its points and mechanisms, gain work experience in the severe Arctic conditions. They will also study the crewmembers’ work while the icebreaker provides support for vessels. This is the first training for cadets aboard the icebreaker in the history of their school.

Addressing cadets the second in command, Vitaly Ryzhov, wished the young sailors successful training, studying important aspects of the work of specialists of the maritime industry and gaining the  experience necessary for future sailors.

Cadets will be accommodated in comfortable double rooms with the separate bathrooms. During the voyage, they will be able to make use of a fitness facility, a sauna and a swimming pool. Cadets’ meals are organized according to the menu of the icebreaker’s crewmembers.

The icebreaker will return to the seaport of Murmansk in the end of May 2018.
