Capitan Dranitsyn Icebreaker Set Out on a Voyage

On September 10, 2016 after being fueled up and supplied with all necessary stuff the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker left for the Kara Sea area to make unique researches.

During a month Kapitan Dranitsyn will make a propulsion of icebergs for the first time with the scientific assistance of Akademik Treshnikov research vessel.

The ordering customer of the voyage is State Research Center Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute which is a leader of the Russian polar science.

The purpose of these experiments is to get a practical experience in changing the routes of drift of icebergs which pose a real danger for the drilling platforms operating in the Arctic Regions.

The data gained as a result of the researches will be used to create a future method of propulsion of icebergs.

Researches carried out practically are unique in the North Regions and open a new page in the exploration of the Arctic seas by Russia.
