Kapitan Dranitsyn Icebreaker Takes Part in a Rescue Operation

On March 24, 2016 on board of cargo vessel Inzhener Trubin it became necessary to urgently hospitalize one of the crew members due to deterioration of health. In order to promptly evacuate the patient from the motor ship, which was escorted by Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker of the Murmansk Branch, it was decided to transfer him on board of the Branch icebreaker equipped with a helipad and then to take him to the hospital in Arkhangelsk by helicopter.

In coordination with the MRCC of Arkhangelsk of FSBI “ASP of Western Arctic”, Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker and Inzhener Trubin motor ship reached the area of the White Sea neck, where transfer of the patient on board of the icebreaker could be carried out safely.

Having took the patient on board and left the escorted vessel,  Kapitan Dranitsyn followed the reverse course and at full speed headed to the meeting point with the helicopter.

Landing and taking off of the helicopter with doctors on board of the icebreaker has been successfully completed, the ill member of the Inzhener Trubin ship crew has been safely delivered to the hospital in Arkhangelsk by helicopter.

After completing the rescue operation, the icebreaker went back to the escorted vessel and continued its icebreaker support operation to the northern edge of the ice, after the passage through which the ship was able to move on its own to the seaport of destination.
