Murmansk Branch Confirmed Compliance to the International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships

As a result of the audit conducted by the experts of the federal autonomous establishment “Russian Sea Register of Shipping”, the Murmansk Branch on 23 July 2014 received a Document of Compliance, which certifies the compliance of the Murmansk Branch Safety Management System with the requirements of the International Management Code for the Safe Operation of Ships and for Pollution Prevention (ISM Code) for the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker.

The Document of Compliance once again proved the advanced level of the Murmansk Branch Safety Management System, which allows operating the Kapitan Dranitcyn icebreaker in accordance with its mission without failures. It also helps to avoid environmental pollution and prevent seamen from getting into accidents.

The Russian Sea Register of Shipping had earlier certified and confirmed the compliance of the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker Safety Management System to the ISM Code. According to the established procedure, the Russian Sea Register of Shipping presented a Safety Management Certificate to the Murmansk Branch.

The certificate confirms the required level of a ship Safety Management System and allows the ship to perform international voyages.

The history of usage of the Murmansk Branch icebreaker shows that it is highly demanded by both Russian and foreign clients.

In particular, in 2013 the icebreaker supported the work of the scientific expedition carried out by the federal state budgetary enterprise “Arctic and Antarctic Institute”. The mission of the expedition was to explore the dangerous ice objects in the Kara Sea. The icebreaker has also been often freighted by foreign clients. In 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker was freighted by the Argentinian Government in order to escort the Vasily Golovnin ship to the Argentinian Antarctic station Bel-Grano II. The icebreaker crew received gratitude from the Argentinian Government for their professional work.
