Icebreaking Support of Cargo and Personnel Delivery to Belgrano-2 Argentine Antarctic Station

On 17 December the Kapitan Dranitsyn icebreaker of the Murmansk Branch left Murmansk Seaport for the destination point near Cape Norway, Antarctica.

The icebreaker is to provide icebreaking assistance and ice towing of the Vasiliy Golovnin ship carrying equipment, personnel, food and other provision to the Argentine Antarctic Station Belgarno-2 located in the southern part of the Weddell Sea.

The Kapitan Dranitsyn’s mission is to provide icebreaking support of the cargo ship in the Weddell sea, convoy the ship to an ice berth, arrange ice watch during the unloading and render any other possible assistance.

The icebreaker and the ship are going to reach the Belgrano-2 station in the latter half of January 2014.
