Exercise in Makhachkala Seaport

On 15 August 2014 an exercise for the search and rescue of people in distress at sea was conducted in Makhachkala Seaport.

The exercise was carried out by divisions of the Sea Rescue and Coordination Center of the federal state budgetary enterprise “Administration of the Caspian Seaports”, the Caspian Branch of the federal state budgetary enterprise “Sea Rescue Service”, operators of GMDSS areas A1 and A2 of the Vessel Traffic, Communications and Electric Radio Navigation Service of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Makhachkala Branch, ships of the Russian Navy, vessels of the Russian and foreign shipping companies.

The scenario of the exercise included checking the functioning of the radio detecting system at emergency frequencies, simulating alerts and actions of emergency services after receiving distress signals, checking the readiness to allocate vessels and equipment to distress area within the responsibility area of the Russian Federation.

The operators of GMDSS areas A1 and A2, who were involved in the exercise, successfully and urgently made alerts to the vessels and ships in the designated part of the Caspian Sea about the simulated emergency.

All the goals of the exercise, including the training of coordinated activities of the emergency services in Makhachkala Seaport, were successfully reached.
