The Azov Basin Branch releases young Russian sturgeon into the Don River

On July 25–26, 2022, young Russian sturgeon was released into the Don River (below the Tsimlyansk hydroelectric complex) in the presence of representatives of state control and supervisory authorities as part of environmental protection measures implemented by the FSUE “Rosmorport” Azov Basin Branch to compensate for damage to aquatic biological resources and their habitat caused during dredging works at the Donetsk Perekat and the Azov-Don Sea Canal in 2019–2020, as well as at the Taganrog Approach Channel and in the water area of the seaport of Taganrog in 2016, 2019–2020.

The young Russian sturgeon with an average weight of 2.5 grams in the amount of more than 700 thousand pieces was grown by a specialized fish breeding plant by order of the Azov Basin Branch.

The release that took place was the first and only one this year in accordance with the approved program of compensatory measures of the branch for 2022.

The expenses of the Azov Basin Branch for the cultivation and release of young Russian sturgeon amounted to more than 30 million rubles.
