Honoring memory of the fallen in 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War

Ahead of Victory Day the FSUE “Rosmorport” Astrakhan Branch has invited veterans of the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War to take part in the celebrations marking the victory in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War. Workers of the branch have also participated in the meeting. Its participants laid wreaths to the memorials “Monument to Lost Ships” and “Monument to Lost Sailors” that had been erected in Astrakhan and took part in a symbolic laying-wreath ceremony at the Volga River in memory of the fallen heroes – defenders of Motherland.

The monument to lost ships has been erected in memory of ships and its crewmembers, who were killed in the Lower Volga during the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War. It was opened to mark USSR Navy Day in July 1980.

The monument to lost sailors was opened in May 1922 on the site of mass graves of the Volga Caspian Sea Fleet sailors fallen during the liberation of Astrakhan in 1919-1921.
