Astrakhan Branch Releases Russian Young Sturgeon to Volga River

Within the environmental measures taken by the FSUE “Rosmorport” Astrakhan Branch to compensate damage caused to water bioresources and environmental conditions during maintenance dredging operations carried out in 2016 on the Volga Caspian Marine Shipping Canal over three thousand Russian young sturgeons were released to Volga River on August 23, 2017 in the presence of representatives of state supervisory agencies.

This release of Russian young sturgeon grown by the specialized firm farm company of the Astrakhan region by the order of the Astrakhan Branch and with the average single-piece weight of three grams has become the first this year and took place in the water area of the Volgograd hydroelectric power station tail pond.

The Astrakhan Branch’s expenses to grow and release Russian young sturgeon and young carp to the Volga River have made up 50,000 rubles this year.

Totally since 2008 the Astrakhan has spent over 16 million rubles to buy and release over 8.7 million juvenile carps and sturgeons to Volga River and its feeders.
