Icebreakers of Astrakhan Branch Take Part in a Rescue Operation

On January 27, 2016 Kapitan Chechkin and Kapitan Metsaik icebreakers took part in a rescue operation of Nardiz motor ship (flag of Iran), following the route from the seaport of Astrakhan (Russia) to the seaport of Anzali (Iran), in the engine room of which a fire occurred.

After receiving the distress signal from the vessel, which was located around 128 km of the Volga-Caspian Marine Shipping Canal (VCMSC), Kapitan Chechkin icebreaker of the Arkhangelsk Branch was sent to the scene of the accident.

Due to the emergency situation, Kapitan Chechkin icebreaker had to leave the towed Kompozitor Gasanov vessel in the safe area at 130 km of the VCMSC and headed to the vessel in distress.

To help in fire suppression on the Nardiz motor ship, Uglich rescue vessel of the FBI “Marine Rescue Service of Rosmorrechflot” was also sent there. Kapitan Metsaik icebreaker of the Astrakhan Branch was also involved in paving the way for the rescue vessel to the scene of the accident through ice, 

The Kapitan Chechkin, came to the burning ship, promptly eliminated the fire on the Nardiz motor ship using onboard fire system, thus prevent injuries.

Currently, Uglich rescue vessel is  pumping out water from the Nardiz motor ship, after which the motor ship will be towed to the seaport of Olya.
