The event, which was held at the Voronin Arctic Maritime Institute – the Branch of the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping, was attended by students of educational institutions, veterans of the Northern Fleet, representatives of public and other organizations whose activities are related to the sea.

The purpose of the event is to attract the younger generation to the study and mastering of maritime professions.

As a dynamically developing regional organization, the Arkhangelsk Branch constantly needs highly qualified personnel. Within the opportunities of the event, the Branch presented jobs for navigators and dredge masters who are able to operate modern high-tech equipment of the dredging fleet, captain assistants on radio electronics to work on icebreakers in polar waters and on the Northern Sea Route, as well as for mechanical navigators to work on pilot and buoy vessels in the water areas of the seaports of Arkhangelsk, Naryan-Mar and Sabetta.

The visitors were greatly interested in the information stand of the Arkhangelsk Branch. The stand presented materials on the development history of FSUE “Rosmorport”, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and also some marine equipment and instruments.

The participants of the event were able to see navigation lights, radio buoys, an echo sounder and even use a real marine radio station.

For reference:

In 1942, the People's Commissar of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Gerasimovich Kuznetsov signed an order on the establishment of the Sea Cadets school of the Navy of the USSR at the training detachment of the Northern Fleet. The creation of the Sea Cadets school made it possible to reduce the shortage of motorists, radio operators, helmsmen and other specialists that arose in the fleet as a result of combat losses.

The pupils of the school not only served on vessels during the Great Patriotic War, but also participated in allied convoys, ensuring the defense of the Motherland.

Since May 25, 2020, the Memorial Day of the Northern Sea Cadets has been celebrated annually.
