Pilots of the Arkhangelsk Branch make unique pilotage of the Sevmorput nuclear-powered icebreaking LASH carrier to the seaport of Arkhangelsk

Pilots of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Arkhangelsk Branch made the unique pilotage of the Sevmorput nuclear-powered icebreaking LASH carrier to the seaport of Arkhangelsk on March 06, 2019 and its mooring to berth No. 2 and berth No. 3.

The distance of the pilotage was 18.8 nautical miles.

In order to ensure safe pilotage of the icebreaking LASH carrier with 260 meters in length and 32 meters in breadth the Dikson icebreaker of the Arkhangelsk Branch treated the ice canal throughout the pilotage – from the entrance buoy to the berths of the Ekonomiya loading-unloading area of the seaport of Arkhangelsk where the vessel had been moored.

During the pilotage in the Ekonomsky Treugolnik area where the ship’s overturning has been made, the Arkhangelsk Branch’s Kapitan Chadaev icebreaker broke the ice to create a sufficient space of broken ice for safe maneuvering of the carrier. Before mooring at berth No. 2 and berth No. 3 the icebreakers of the Arkhangelsk Branch also made ice scrabbling for safe mooring of the vessel.

This is the first vessel call at the seaport of Arkhangelsk by a vessel of such dimensions. The successful implementation of this difficult operation would be impossible without preliminary mathematic navigation modelling of the vessel call at the seaport of Arkhangelsk that specialists of FSUE “The Krylov State Scientific Center” and pilots of the Arkhangelsk Branch made.

Upon completion of shipping at the seaport of Arkhangelsk the Sevmorput nuclear-powered icebreaking LASH carrier will leave for the seaport of Sabetta where it delivers general cargo.
