Arkhangelsk Branch takes part in interdepartmental drills

Interdepartmental drills for rescuing people and vessels in distress at sea were held in the seaport of Arkhangelsk May 29, 2019.

The drills involved the Severnaya Dvina dredger of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Arkhangelsk Branch. The dredger has been used as a notional passenger ship.

All search and rescue units that took part in the drills have been coordinated by the Main Directorate of Russia’s Emergencies Ministry for the Arkhangelsk region.

Under the legend, an explosion occurred on the notional passenger vessel that had led to a fire throwing two crewmembers into the water. There were injured people aboard the vessel.

During the drills, crewmembers trained in performing fire-fighting operations on the vessel, rescue operations and assistance to injured passengers and crewmembers. Search and rescue operations were also held as part of the drills.

Different search and rescue formations deployed in the area of the seaport of Arkhangelsk were used to search for and rescue people and they had successfully maintained interaction during the drills.

Doctors involved in rescue operations were embarked aboard the vessel in distress from a helicopter. Swimmers showed two methods of lifting injured people from the water aboard the helicopter by using special baskets and by the way of belting up to the forest penetrator. A conditional injured person was timely taken to the berth, moved down from the helicopter by using special equipment and passed to a group of doctors. Vessels taking part in the drills extinguished fire on the vessel, evacuated injured people from the vessel in distress and took them to the berth.

During the drills, all goals were achieved and the results of the drills were highly assessed by the command of the drills.
