Gratitude to the Arkhangelsk Branch Ice Pilots

The Arkhangelsk Branch ice pilots provided pilotage to two bulk carriers of “ОLDENDORF” shipping company (Germany) in the water area of the Northern Sea Route from Cape Dezhnev to Cape Zhelaniya (island of Novaya Zemlya), the route of pilotage ran through four seas: Chukchi, East Siberian, Laptev and Kara.

The company's vessels with cargo of coal, with the deadweight of 80 thousand tons each, proceeded from the seaport of Vancouver (Canada) to the seaport of Raahe (Finland).

Ice pilotage of vessels was carried out in the period from August to September in difficult meteorological conditions. Accumulation of large icebergs, and, in addition, constant fog took place in the vessels’ area of navigation. In some areas, the vessels navigated with the assistance of nuclear icebreakers as a part of convoys.

The “ОLDENDORF” company and captains of the motor vessels thanked the Arkhangelsk Branch ice pilots for their assistance in the successful pilotage in the water area of the Northern Sea Route and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
