FSUE “Rosmorport” sailing ships end 2018 navigation

The final training practice was ended on the Nadezhda sailing ship in Vladivostok on December 12, 2018.

During the period of the 2018 navigation, four shifts of the industry’s higher educational establishments underwent training on the frigate.

Totally, 452 cadets have undergone training this year under guidance of the sailing ship’s captain, Sergei Vorobyov. They passed 121 days at sea having covered a distance of over 10,000 nautical miles. The frigate visited Japan and South Korea and won the Far Eastern regatta of big sailing ships. The sailing ship also took part in other international events.

The T1819 SOULIK typhoon, which raged in the East China Sea in August, became a real trial for the frigate and its crew. Cadets were able to cope with the sails and showed team spirit and excellent concerted effort.

This year three-master frigate has also congratulated the Okean all-Russian children’s center with the jubilee. The frigate in full sail, covered by colorful backlight, visited the water area of Yemar Strait, Ussuri Bay located near the children’s center and became the real highlight of the holiday. About three thousand educatees and guests of the center met the frigate ashore. The excursions aboard the frigate have been organized for them.

Jointly with the Far Eastern frigate the Mir sailing ship summed up the results of training in St Petersburg and the Khersones sailing ship summed up the results of training in Sevastopol.

This year three cadet shifts (396 people) have sharpened their skills aboard the Mir sailing ship. During the course of studies, children covered over 15,000 nautical miles, visited seven countries and 14 seaports.

During the moorage, by old good tradition the Mir sailing ship opened its board for all guests and lovers of maritime romanticism. Cadets conducted excursions and master classes for all comers. By putting calls at foreign seaports crewmembers of the sailing ship took part in different cultural and sportive events and demonstrated maritime traditions and the high level of education in Russia. Every passage of the frigate was individual and gave an opportunity for its participants to assay their strength of spirit and endurance.

The victory in the Tall Ships Races 2018 major international regatta became the most memorable event for the sailing ship’s crew in 2018. Based on the results of all stages of the competitions the Mir frigate took first place in its class. During a solemn ceremony, the FSUE “Rosmroport” sailing ship has been honored with a separate award as the fastest sailing ship.

In April-November 2018 four shifts of cadets (364 people) received maritime training aboard the Khersones sailing ship. The frigate passed 104 days in open sea and covered a distance of 5,500 nautical miles. Cadets sharpened their skills to set the sails and put up four-sided sails and gaff-sails. The received knowledge and skills, maritime endurance and the knowledge to work and live by rules of the real ship’s crew were the most valuable achievements.

This year the sailing ship has received the honorable role to open a parade organized in honor of Russia’s Navy. The FSUE “Rosmorport” frigate entered the water area of Sevastopol Bay in full sail and ran past warships and guests’ tribune. The ship’s crewmembers had vivid impressions from the holiday devoted to the anniversary of the Artek international children’s center. In order to congratulate children, the Khersones entered the Gurzuf Bay in full sail. Children were able to study the ship’s details using the binoculars installed on the Artek viewing site. During the festivities, the crewmembers were invited to attend a concert.

As part of the voyages aboard the FSUE “Rosmorport” sailing ships all cadets studied marine navigation, the operation of ships’ power units and ships’ electric and automation equipment. Over several months of the training future sea dogs covered a distance of thousands of miles, assayed their endurance, gained experience and acquired skills to make sails. They familiarized themselves with key construction elements of the ship, international and national documents on navigation safety, acquired skills of mooring and anchoring equipment, trained skills to keep the sea watch and operate rescue boats and rafts. The training also showed contribution to maintenance and repairs on vessels.

Jointly with the industry’s educational institutions FSUE “Rosmorport” organizes and conducts trainings on sailing ships that helps increase the personnel potential, which is the key resource for the development of the country’s transport sector.

Training is built pursuant to international and national requirements to prepare crewmembers of sea vessels. In addition to the necessary navigation census, one of the priorities of training is to acquire professional competences by cadets under the 1978 International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch-keeping for Seafarers.
