Mir sailing ship returns to home port

The FSUE “Rosmorport” Mir sailing ship returned to the home port of Big Port St Petersburg on November 25, 2019. Cadets of Admiral Makarov State University for Maritime and Inland Shipping ended their training aboard the Mir. The weather conditions were not easy during the voyage: the ship had to change the route several times. On the way to the port of Sete (France) the sailing ship faced the storm, which did not allow the Mir to pass the Bay of Biscay. The Mir was forced to turn back: cadets and crewmembers found shelter at the German ports of Wilhelmshaven and Warnemunde. During the mooring of the sailing ship at the port, young sailors learn to acquire and acquired professional skills and took part in cultural, sportive and entertaining events. During sightseeing tours, children studied the history of cities and supported a local soccer team at the stadium. Despite the changed plans, during the voyage, which lasted till November, the Mir sailing ship overcame over 5.000 miles.

Over seven months of the 2019 navigation, a total of 386 cadets of Admiral Makarov State University for Maritime and Inland Shipping, the GUMF college, the branches of the university from Arkhangelsk, Kotlas, Onega and Moscow, the Volga State University of Water Transport underwent training aboard the Mir sailing ship.

Due to the speed performance and joint efforts taken by the crew and cadets of the Mir, the sailing ship confirmed the title of the fastest vessel during the second stage of Tall Ship Races 2019. Aboard the ship children sharpened their skills and knowledge, became acquainted with harsh conditions of the maritime profession, defined their spirit and created an esprit de corps.

The Saint Vladimir icon was aboard the ship jointly with the youth. The precious relic from the Smolny Cathedral of St Petersburg has been given on the sailing ship every year to guard guys and consecrate their route.
