Mir sailing ship sets sail with new shift of cadets aboard

The third shift of cadets of Admiral Makarov State University for Maritime and Inland Shipping came aboard the Mir sailing ship in the seaport of Big Port St Petersburg on September 8, 2019. During the training, a total of 132 cadets, including girls, will visit the oldest ports of France and Germany and study intricacies of maritime affairs. The voyage will last till November 25. Cadets have to pass over 6.000 miles aboard the legendary sailing ship.

New recruits will do their best to study the sailing ship’s rigging, its machinery and equipment. In complicated navigation conditions cadets managed by experienced crewmembers will check and reinforce their theoretical skills acquired earlier and take part in mooring operations, sailing all hands on deck operations and life boat drills. Young sailors will learn from experience that the sea is not only romanticism but also a big responsibility and the knowledge to work within a team quickly and consistently.
