FSUE “Rosmorport” Icebreakers Escort Vessels in Kara Sea

At present 3 FSUE “Rosmorport” diesel-electric icebreakers operate in the waters of the Gulf of Ob of Kara Sea. Tor and Moskva icebreakers conduct icebreaker supports in the waters of Sabetta Seaport. In the course of work from December 2016 more than 100 vessels were escorted by them. The icebreakers conduct ice channel maintenance, assist in approach and return of cargo vessels to the seaport's berths as well as delivery of pilots to the vessels.

Cargo traffic along the North Seaway is increasing and the need in the icebreaker fleet services is increasing as well. To address a request of “Yamal SPG” OJSC an additional new icebreaker Vladivistok is brought in on the approach to Sabetta Seaport from April 1. One of the objectives of the vessel is to conduct support in the area from the point of caravan formation in the Cape Zhelaniya region to the borders of the Sabetta Seaport waters and backward. Vladivostok icebreaker has already escorted 3 vessels in the first days of the month.

Ice navigation conditions are evaluated as medium in the vessels operation area, the ice thickness reaches 90-110 сm.  The diesel-electric icebreakers used by FSUE “Rosmorport” are constructed with the use of advanced technologies and can break ice with the thickness of up to 1.5 m.
