Professor Khlyustin Training Ship Put Out to Pacific Ocean

Having left from Vladivostok Seaport on 25 September, the Professor Khlyustin training ship on 29 September 14:00 in full compliance with the expedition schedule put to the Pacific Ocean, making its way to the research destination.

The aim of the expedition arranged by the State State Institute of Oceanography in the framework of the Russian Geographical Society project is to explore the distant consequences of the accident at “Fukushima-1” Nuclear Power Plant in Japan.

Due to the storm in the Japan, after the start of the voyage the Professor Khlyustin ship had to stay for some time near the Plastun marine terminal. During the stop a deep-water cable winch for taking water samples was successfully tested. Besides, a boat exercise and a damage control exercise was conducted for the trainees going on the ship.

The ship is expected to arrive to the research area on 2 October.

In the middle of the current year the Professor Khlyustin ship was secured to FSUE “Rosmorport” on the right of economic management and transferred to the Far Eastern Branch, according to the established procedure. To view the general characteristics of the vessel, please follow the link.
