Pilotage Service 400th Anniversary Jubilee Badge Established

By Mintrans of Russia Order dated 05.11.2013 No. 333 in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the Arkhangelsk Seaport pilotage service laying the foundation of the state pilotage service the pilotage service 400th anniversary jubilee badge was established and the regulations on it were approved. According to the approved regulations the employees and veterans of marine and inland water transport organizations and the other persons that have significantly contributed to the development of the pilotage activities at marine and inland water transport and have worked in the sphere of pilotage activities for not less than 10 years are awarded a jubilee badge.

It should be mentioned that in the framework of celebration of the 400th anniversary of the Russian oldest pilotage service whose glorious traditions worthy successor is now the FSUE “Rosmorport” Arkhangelsk branch pilotage service, with the assistance of the enterprise the extensive celebrations dedicated to this significant event for the whole of Russia were conducted.

In particular, in Arkhangelsk in September 2013 with the assistance of the Arkhangelsk Branch in the Arctic Sea Institute named after V.I. Voronin the III Pilot Readings on the role and importance of Arkhangelsk pilots for navigation development in Moscovia, the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation were held and the “Pilotage Service of Arkhangelk: Documents, Facts, Objects” exhibition was opened in the Arkhangelsk Marine Museum. The exhibits were presented by the Russian State Navy Archive in Saint-Petersburg, State Archive of Arkhangelsk Region, Arts and Crafts Museum of the Uyma village, family archives of the pilots’ descendants.

In November 2013 with an active role of the enterprise a solemn ceremony of laying a stone for the monument to the pilots of Russia took place at the intersection of the Northern Dvina quay and Voskresenskaya Street in Arkhangelsk.

Despite this, at the initiative of the FSUE “Rosmorport” the first book of the series “Pilots of Russia at Service of Homeland” was prepared. The book named “Arkhangelsk Ship Pilots” is devoted to the history of formation and evolution of the pilotage activity and the specifics of the difficult and responsible pilot work.

In the future the FSUE “Rosmorport” as the largest state pilotage organization in Russia whose pilotage units employees number exceeds 600 people will continue the work to promote the decent pilot profession keeping a wealth of experience and traditions of the founders of pilotage activities in Russia.
