See you next time in the Orlyonok Russian children’s center!

The first summer shift has been completed in the Orlyonok Russian children’s center. Forty winners of the socially oriented educational project “My Port” took part in the first shift. The restrictive measures taken by the Russian Federal Agency for Oversight of Natural Resource Usage to reduce the first shift in the center have not prevented the children from acquiring vocational skills and finding new friends.

Over two weeks instead of three, young sailors have learnt new skills under an extended general technical program “Orlyonok is the Navigator of My Summer” developed by experienced specialists and coordinators of the Shtormovoy children’s center. Children showed interest in studying maritime professions and traditions, acquired new knowledge about Russia’s maritime history. For a short period of time the participants in this program have taken a basic course of such maritime disciplines as flag wagging, the Morse code, drumming, the fundamentals of applied naval architecture, the maritime English language, and learnt to dance a real Sevastopol waltz.

Many children will keep in memory classes in sailorizing aimed at tying their first knots, as well as in fire training when children learnt to assemble and dissemble a Kalashnikov.

During the 7th shift closing ceremony, the children have been given certificates and diplomas and the most active children have been given a title of “A Boy” of the Shtormovoy children’s center.

Teenagers will take home awards and souvenirs, which were gotten during the games, trivia shows and sporting competitions. They also acquired invaluable maritime experience and knowledge about navigation and maritime affairs that will help them choose the future profession.
