Arctic maritime fleet festival will be held online

The 3rd festival of the Arctic maritime fleet will take place on May 18, 2020 at the initiative of FSUE “Rosmorport”. The event, which is held with the participation of Voronin Artic Maritime Institute – the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Military Education “Admiral Makarov State University for Marine and Inland Shipping”, is devoted to the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation round the world cultural, educational and entertaining events are cancelled. In light of this a decision was made to hold the Arctic maritime fleet festival online. For this end, a special Internet platform has been prepared where those who wish could get to know the history and modern capabilities of the Russian maritime fleet, find out more about professions related to the exploration of the northernmost region of Russia and get acquainted with Arkhangelsk, the homeland of discoverers and seafarers.

The rector of Admiral Makarov State University for Marine and Inland Shipping Sergei Baryshnikov and acting captain of the seaport of Arkhangelsk Viktor Yermolin sent video greetings to the participants in the festival.

Educational visuals were specially prepared for the festival. The participants in the event will be able to know more about the particulars of a ship captain’s profession and feel the atmosphere of the work in the the Arctic climate and get new knowledge about scientific expeditions.

The three-dimensional excursion on the FSUE “Rosmorport” Arkhangelsk Branch Dikson icebreaker are the gem of the project. Visitors of the platform will be able to walk on the vessel and see the suburbs of the city from the direction-finding deck, have a look at the engine room and even stand on the command bridge.

History lovers will have a chance to read archives, documents and monographs about the fleet’s fight in the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War.

The Arctic maritime fleet festival was set up in 2018 at the initiative of Voronin Artic Maritime Institute – the branch of the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Military Education “Admiral Makarov State University for Marine and Inland Shipping” and the FSUE “Rosmorport” Arkhangelsk Branch with support of the government of the Arkhangelsk region and the administration of Arkhangelsk. By tradition the festival is held in the seaport with the involvement of the enterprise’s icebreakers, which have been moored at berths. The event is to help make popular the exploration of the Arctic region, attract the personnel and form up the positive image of Arkhangelsk and Russia.
