The Viktor Vorotylo new boat put afloat at Onego Shipyard

A ceremony was held at the Onego Shipyard in Petrozavodsk on February 28, 2020 to put afloat the Viktor Vorotylo new boat. The boat of project ST23WTM-H with an innovation hybrid diesel electric propulsion system became the second vessel being built by FSUE “Rosmorport” order. The first boat, the Anatoly Klimov, had been put afloat in the beginning of the year.

The boats of KM Ice3 R2 AUT3 Class are designed for inspecting the state of waterways, making environmental monitoring of water areas, participating in special operations and pilotage. The boats can be use all-year-round at ice-free seas and in the summer in freezing non-Arctic seas. This year the boats will expand the FSUE “Rosmorport” Vanino Branch fleet.

The vessels of this unique project are designed with the use of the up-to-date technical solutions in the field of electric propulsion the analogues of which have not yet existed in Russia. Their key particular is the combination of different modes of interaction of main engines, diesel generators and consumer batteries. The introduction of propulsion motors to the existing main propulsion system will allow vessels to move on the speed up to six knots without main engines and at top speed without diesel generators. This solution will make it possible to optimize costs of operation, increase the service life of vessel’s equipment and reduce the negative impact on the environment.

The solemn ceremony involved representatives of regional and municipal authorities, heads of profile organizations and employees of the Onego Shipyard.

Natalya, one of the daughters of Viktor Vorotylo, became a god mother of the boat. The boat was named after Victor Vorotylo, one of the experienced specialists of the industry, who worked as operations director at the Onego Shipyard for many years. By the fleet tradition a bottle of champagne was broken over the hull of the ship to herald a new life of the boat.
