FSUE “Rosmorport” icebreaker carries out unique towing operation of floating power unit

The Dikson icebreaker of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Arkhangelsk Branch has started carrying out a unique towing operation of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit.

The icebreaker will provide the movement of the nuclear power plant along the Northern Sea Route to the base location in the seaport of Pevek. On August 23, 2019 pilots of the FSUE “Rosmorport” Murmansk Branch provided the exit of the floating power unit with the capacity of 80 Mw from the seaport of Murmansk. It is planned that it will take a month to carry out the towing operation. A total of 2,600 nautical miles will be passed.

The floating power unit is designed for using it in the areas of the Extreme North and the Far East. Its major goal is to supply energy to distant industrial enterprises and ore mining and processing industrial complexes, settlements of the Chausky and Bilibinsky districts of Chukotka, as well as gas and oil platforms in open sea.
