The Mir sailing ship takes part in Schwedenfest celebration in Germany

The FSUE “Rosmorport” Mir sailing ship arrived at the seaport of Wismar (Germany) on August 15, 2019. Captain of the sailing ship Andrei Orlov and the crew of the ship jointly with cadets undergoing training aboard the ship became honorable guests of the major Swedish festival outside Sweden. Schwedenfest was held in the German city where one of the major Swedish ports had been located in the days of old.

Germany prepared in advance for the ship call: a tow arrived from another German seaport – the port of Rostock for safe mooring of the frigate. Organizers of the event noted that the Mir had headed for Wismar in 2018. They hope that the legendary frigate will arrive at the port annually.

During the mooring, the Mir worked in a mode of open board. Excursions were conducted for all comers. The arrival of the frigate became a special gift for young residents from needy families: last year they had the unique possibility to spend the day in the Baltic Sea free of charge jointly with Russian crewmembers.

The program of the 20th Swedish festival was intensive: it included musical concerts, performances, fairs and sportive competitions. Different performances have been held for four days. Special attention was paid to re-enactment: military historical societies from Sweden took part in organizing the event.

Schwedenfest became the final event in navigational training of cadets of the second shift. The ship will leave the hospitable port of Wismar August 19 and head for the home port of Big Port St Petersburg. According to developers of training courses aboard FSUE “Rosmorport” sailing ships, the participation in international events plays an important role to acquire necessary professional skills and such events help broaden their mind, practice foreign languages and study the particularities of foreign seaports.

The next shift of cadets will go aboard the Mir sailing ship on September 8, 2019.
