FSUE “Rosmorport” continues to ensure safe navigation in the water area of the Northern Sea Route

The FSUE “Rosmorport” Novorossiysk icebreaker provides icebreaker support to the Silver Explorer high-class cruise liner on the Northern Sea Route. The escort of the vessel started in the Bering Strait on August 14, 2019.

The aim of FSUE “Rosmorport” is to provide icebreaker support during the navigation in the Russian Arctic waters. Under an agreement signed with Silversea Cruises Ltd., icebreaker support will last for two weeks and end on Uyedineniye Island in the Kara Sea.

Last year six FSUE “Rosmorport” icebreakers took part in ensuring safe navigation and providing icebreaker support in the water area of the Northern Sea Route. In 2019 the Novorossiysk icebreaker keeps the watch in the eastern sector of the Arctic and the areas of Chukotka during the summer navigation from July 25 to October 31. Silver Explorer (the home port is located in Nassau, the Bahamas) was built for navigation in the most distant areas of the world and became the first high-class cruise liner which was provided with icebreaker services in the water area of the Northern Sea Route this summer.
