See you next time, the Ocean!

FSUE “Rosmorport” continues to systematically realize socially oriented projects in the best Russian children’s centers by educating the young generation in the spirit of Russian naval traditions. An educational program “The Origins of Maritime Brotherhood” ended at the Okean (Ocean) Russian children’s center on August 7, 2019. During the shift, 18 young winners of the All-Russian contest “My Port” learned the basics of maritime affairs and international navigation.

Supervised by experienced instructors, children from different Russian regions sailed, learned to haul and maneuver a vessel, bent reef knots. They   took part in diving master classes and learned many interesting things from the history of navigation and geography of waterways. The first sea passage of the Optimist centerboard boat created by young navigators within the additional educational program has become one of the key events of the project.

In order to increase quality of training two new educational laboratories – a slip dock and a maritime center, including equipped classrooms, a large kenning glass and premises for keeping the Yal-6 six-oared boats were opened at the children’s center. Aboard of these vessels children underwent training and competed on the speed and endurance during the sailing regatta “Summer. Children. Ocean”.

The participation in the celebrations marking Russian Navy Day, discussion clubs and the naval parade in the water area of the Ussuri Bay, the nation’s fair, a literacy circle helped young sailors expand their horizons and get a deep insight into maritime professions.

On the last day of the shift each crew member was given certificates of the successful completion of the program “The Origins of Maritime Brotherhood”. Children got bright impressions, took home awards and prizes competed for during the games, quizzes and sports competitions, as well as souvenirs, including equipment with the FSUE “Rosmorport” symbols.

“The Origins of Maritime Brotherhood” educational program became the first but not the last program proposed by the All-Russian children’s center to winners of the “My Port” project in 2019. Children from different Russian regions will take part in the 11th thematic shift at the Okean center.
