FSUE “Rosmorport” Kaliningrad VTS marks 25th anniversary
A solemn event devoted to the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of Kaliningrad VTS was held in Kaliningrad May 31, 2019.
Twenty-five years ago the Arkhyz tanker called at the seaport of Kaliningrad for the first time under support of the port’s vessel tracking management system.
In 2004 VTS consisting of two coastal radar posts located in the settlement of Baltyisk was given to FSUE “Rosmorport” under economic management. At the time, the VTS area has covered less than 30% of the Kaliningrad seaway canal.
By 2009 FSUE “Rosmorport” fully reconstructed the VTS by building a new VTS center and four automated radar posts, which ensure control over navigation throughout the Kaliningrad seaway canal and the approaches toward Baltiysk from seaward.
At present, VTS of the seaport of Kaliningrad meets the requirements imposed on VTS of highest category. VTS ensures navigation safety and ensures its effectiveness, protects marine environment and the coast from pollutions.
Every year over 20,000 vessels are under control of the VTS area in the seaport of Kaliningrad includes. Over 80% of vessels perform calls at/leave the seaport of Kaliningrad.
During the festive events, deputy director of the FSUE “Rosmorport” North-Western Basin Branch, chief of the Kaliningrad Directorate Andrei Moshkov noted the importance of the work of VTS, professionalism and joint efforts taken by employees of VTMS. By meeting vessels on the approaches toward the seaport of Kaliningrad they create the first impression on the seaport.
Based on the results of the professional skill competitions winners have been presented letters of recognition and memorable gifts in such nominations as VTS Best Operator, VTS Best Crew and VTS Best Engineering Officer in a solemn atmosphere.
People, who have been working in Kaliningrad VTS for more than 15 years and continue their work in order to ensure navigation safety, have been also given letters of gratitude from the branch’s management.
