FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director takes part in meeting on social and economic development of Sakhalin Region

A meeting devoted to the implementation of plans on the social and economic development of the Sakhalin region was held at the House of Government of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on May 30, 2019. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation – Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev.

The meeting involved Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, the region’s head Valery Limarenko, Rosmorrechflot deputy head Zakhariy Dzhioyev, FSUE “Rosmorport” General Director Andrei Lavrishchev, and representatives of federal executive authorities.

Yury Trutnev noted the high rates of the economic development of the region. “The Sakhalin region develops twice as fast as other Russian regions. The rates of economic development amount to 6.8%. These rates go ahead in the Far Eastern Federal District and other Russian regions. It is comparable to the growth of major world economies,” he said.

Special attention was paid to the development of the transport infrastructure of the Sakhalin region. The logistics of cargo flow on the Northern Sea Route is expected to pass through Asia near Sakhalin. Proposals have been made to modernize and build the port infrastructure of the seaport of Korsakov.

The major seaport of the Sakhalin region specializes in handling of containers, provides the influx of at least 80% cargoes of mass consumption. The growing cargo influx requires the reconstruction of hydraulic structure and technological re-equipment. At present, front and engineering design works are currently underway.

Based on the results of the meeting Yury Trutnev gave several instructions. Particularly, the Russian Transport Ministry has been instructed to prepare proposals on increasing transport accessibility of the region, as well as to finalize the issue related to developing the port  infrastructure.
