Russian president congratulates the Nadezhda sailing ship on the victory in Far East Tall Ships Regatta

Russian President Vladimir Putin gave awards to winners of the Far East Tall Ships Regatta September 12, 2018 within the framework of the Eastern Economic Forum currently underway in Vladivostok.

The president gave a cup to Captain of the Nadezhda frigate Sergei Vorobyov. The frigate came first among big training sailing ships.

The FSUE “Rosmorport” sailing ship got the victory in the SCF Far East Tall Ships Regatta 2018 in Class A and in the overall standing. The sailing ship can be hardy named as the most experienced participant in the competition. It won competitions of different level, including SCF Black Sea Tall Ships Regatta 2014.

The awarding ceremony involved Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Mongolian President Khaltmaagiin Battulga, South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon. They gave awards to winners in separate categories.

The ceremony ended by taking joint photos. Then Putin talked with participants in the competitions.

The solemn ceremony became the honorable end of the regatta, which had been held in two stages. The route of the first race from Yeosu (the Republic of Korea) to Vladivostok was over 600 nautical miles. The second stage was held in Golden Horn Bay September 12.

In 2018 the competitions took place in the Far East for the first time. Totally, they involved about 40 vessels from Russia, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan and New Zealand.
